Healing Works Physical Therapy (HWPT) opened its doors in January of 1999 in Arlington, Virginia, serving the D. C. Metropolitan area. HWPT is a physical therapist-owned private practice. HWPT specializes in orthopedic manual therapy. Training includes myofascial release (MFR), craniosacral therapy (CST) and Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT).

Our goal is to provide quality treatment along with an appropriate exercise program to return patients to their prior level of function.

The premise of HWPT is to provide individualized, quality physical therapy care in a one-on-one setting.

About

Meet Lisa A. Shimberg, DPT

Lisa has been a clinician since 1993. She has extensive training in orthopedic manual therapy.

She received her Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) degree in 1993 and her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (DPT) in 2005 from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.  Since graduation, she has worked in a variety of settings, including physical therapist-owned private practices, hospitals, and nursing homes. She has traveled as a physical therapist to Ohio and Maine.

Lisa is a licensed physical therapist in Virginia.

Prior to training as a physical therapist, Lisa was employed by the Department of Justice in Washington, D. C., as a research analyst for 11 years and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration of Justice from American University, Washington, D. C.

Our Services

Healing Works offers a variety of manual physical therapies ranging from myofascial release (MFR), craniosacral therapy (CST), Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT), Strain / Counterstrain, soft-tissue mobilization, and therapeutic exercise.

These therapies rehabilitate patients with orthopedic problems originating from:

  • Work-related repetitive stress injuries (RSI) and Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS)
  • Chronic pain such as fibromyalgia or that affecting the lower back and neck
  • Fracture, sprain, and strain-related injuries
  • Automobile accidents (MVA) and sports injuries

Important Referral Information

Virginia law requires that, to see a licensed physical therapist, you must have a prescription from any one of the following medical practitioners:

  • Medical Doctor (MD) – including but not limited to general practitioner, internist, allergist, psychiatrist, gynecologist, neurologist, orthopedist, etc.
  • Osteopathic Physicial (DO)
  • Dentist (DDS, DMD)
  • Chiropractor (DC)

Lisa Shimberg is able to see a patient for an initial evaluation without a referral from the above listed medical practitioners.
